Rainbow Flag Queer SLO QCARES Study

Queer Community Action, Research, Education & Support (QCARES) is launching an LGBTQ+ needs assessment across SLO County and they need your help. In an effort to better understand the mental health and wellness needs of the local LGBTQ+ community, data from the QCARES study will be used to develop LGBTQ+ affirming programs across the county, especially those who are most at-risk or underserved.

We’re hoping to understand the mental health and wellness needs of the local LGBTQ+ community.

Dr. Jay Bettergarcia, QCARES Director

QCARES is using an online survey and focus groups to better understand the unique needs of our LGBTQ+ community. They’re looking for people who identify as LGBTQ+, live in SLO County, and are 14 years old or older to participate and are especially interested in hearing from those who aren’t as connected to the LGBTQ+ community and potentially often not reached in data collection efforts.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1. TAKE THE SURVEY
The online needs assessment about LGBTQ+ mental health and wellness in SLO County will only take you 20-30 minutes to complete. Participants will help our community in a big way by taking the survey. They will also be entered into a raffle for one of ten $25 gift cards.

2. PARTICIPATE IN THE FOCUS GROUP
Sign up to join in a 1-1.5 hour group discussion about LGBTQ+ mental health and supportive services in SLO County. You’ll meet some other awesome local LGBTQ+ folks while also helping with an important study by adding your voice to the discussion. You’ll also receive a $25 gift card as a thank you for sharing your time and thoughts.

3. SPREAD THE WORD
Share the survey and focus group opportunities on social media. Talk to your friends about it. Encourage others to participate! The more data QCARES gets, the more people in our community they’ll be able to help. It’ll give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside, too.
